Below are just some helpful guidelines as well as some tips and myth about waxing:

  • If you have made an appointment and need to change it simply give us a call as soon as you can with an alternative time and date and we will do all we can to accommodate you. Or head to the confirmation email you received and hit the manage your appointment tab, here you can change or cancel your appointment.
  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes early for your appointment as Suzanne runs a very tight book and prides her self on always running on time.
  • As much as we love kids, the studio space is really not the place for little ones, there are lots of hot wax pots and while Suzanne’s attention is on you, there is no safe space for the little ones to be left unsupervised. Use this time to take a break and recharge your own batteries, leave the kids at home and come alone.

General Waxing

  • When making the decision to stop shaving and get waxed there are a few things you must take into account, firstly we need at least ½ centimeter of hair.
  • It takes at least 2-3 good waxes to undo 1 shave, this is because you have 3 different hair cycles growing and we are trying to get them into sync. You need to commit to waxing for at least 3 months once you have stopped shaving to really see the great benefits that come from waxing.
  • You need to exfoliate/ loofah regularly, 2-3 times a week and with the correct exfoliation/ loofah mitt. Exfoliation mitts are like toothbrushes they should never be shared and they should be thrown away every 2 months, they should also be synthetic as the natural ones love to grow bacteria. Exfoliation helps to stimulate the skin and blood circulation as well as getting rid of dead skin that can lead to ingrown hair.
  • Do not loofah for at least 3 days after your wax, as the wax itself works as an exfoliation and exfoliation at this point will only irritate the skin.

Male Waxing

  • Men tend to have courser, curlier and thicker hair than women. Because male hair is courser, men can experience white heads. These are small pimples like rashes that lasts for a few days. This mostly occurs in the chest, back and groin area. This is caused by bacteria that enter the open follicle especially during and after perspiration.
  • Try to shower after you have exercised as excess sweat can block the follicles and lead to bacterial infections, causing little white pimples like rashes to occur.
  • Make sure you wash as soon as possible after a workout with a loofah and a ph balanced body wash.  Using a loofah and a ph balanced body wash will help clear the area of dead skin and sweat build up. This will also minimize the potential for rashes, itchiness, ingrown hairs.

Brazilian Waxing

  • Before arriving for a Brazilian wax appointment please do not trim, you are not doing any one any favors, it will not hurt less if anything it will hurt more as most clients over trim which is as bad a shaving and the therapist ends up having to puck all the short hairs which should have been pulled out with the wax. If you feel your hair is too long let the therapist know and if need be we will trim.
  • Also if you exfoliate before your wax you will find that you get a better and longer lasting wax, as the exfoliation you do gets rid of all the dead skin revealing all the hair that we then can remove

Pregnancy Waxing

  • Yes it is perfectly safe to wax, right up to the delivery day
  • Some medical professionals prefer that you are waxed before your delivery, alleviating the need to shave

General tips and myths about waxing

  • Hair removal cream is a bad as shaving
  • Clippering and trimming hair before waxing  is not going to alleviate any pain
  • Please do not moisturise your skin before waxing as the wax will not stick
  • Do not have a hot shower following your wax, a warm shower is fine. A hot shower will keep the hair follicle open and could cause irritation and inflammation.
  • Red dots on the skin after a wax is a good thing it shows that you have good blood circulation rushing back to the hair follicle to repair the trauma cause by the hair being removed. This should last only a few hours and a tepid shower will help to calm any redness.
  • It is a totally natural reaction to sweat while having a wax; the body goes into a flight or fight response and wonders why you are not running away.
  • Avoid the sun for 24 hours after wax as skin sensitivity can be increased.
  • Avoid excessive heat such as sauna for 12 hours after a wax
  • Avoid wearing make-up, moisturisers or deodorant for 12 hours after waxing as the follicle is still open and this can cause irritation.
  • Avoid going to the gym, exercise, swimming or excess sweating for 12 hours after waxing.

You will need to wax every four to six weeks depending on your hair regrowth rate. In hot weather hair growth tends to be quicker than in colder weather.
